Home-Delivered Meals

Are you or a loved one homebound?  Do you worry as to whether your loved one is getting a hot meal everyday?  Does thinking of making something for lunch or dinner seem daunting to you or a loved one?  If you have answered yes to one or more of these questions, consider taking advantage of Senior Monongalians' Home Delivered Meals Program.

How does the program work?  When you call in to apply for the program, someone from our our social services' department will make an appointment with you to visit you at home for an evaluation.  After acceptance into the program, participants receive one hot meal Monday through Thursday.  On Fridays, participants receive one hot meal, for that day, and a frozen meal for Saturday and Sunday (one per day).   Follow-up evaluations usually occur within six to twelve months, unless other arrangements are made.  To apply for the Home Delivered Meals Program, contact Mary at 304-296-9812.

How are the meals prepared?  Our kitchen staff prepares all the meals that are delivered to our homebound participants.  After the meals are cooked they are individually packaged in air-tight containers.  As delivery time approaches, meals are loaded into hot boxes and then onto our hot and cold delivery truck.  This process ensures a health department approved temperature until final delivery.  Our drivers will deliver meals to participants between the hours of 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Who is eligible?  Persons applying for the Home Delivered Meals Program must be 60 years of age or older, AND  either homebound OR living alone and physically or mentally unable to obtain food and prepare meals. Regardless of age, spouses of a participant and/or disabled persons residing in the home of a participant are also eligible.  In the case of a disabled person living with a participant, the disabled person does not need to be related to the participant.

What is the cost of this program?  The cost for each meal is a suggested donation based on monthly income.  The suggested contribution for someone with a monthly income of $600.00 is $1.75 for each meal; the suggested contribution for someone with a monthly income of $1,201.00, or more, is $4.75 for each meal.
